Curious. It does make a difference in how the photos are displyed in the blog, but none at all in the size you see when you click on them. Compare what happens when you click on my the photo of my trusty coffee grinder.
I assume the source files for your uploads are the large jpegs that come out of your camera. But I suppose it's possible that your camera produces some kind of smaller reference files and you are uploading those instead, which would explain it.
Otherwise, maybe your blog template has different defaults for how photos are handled than mine does. Seems odd. I'll have to locate someone else using the same template and see if their photos behave the same way.
